What non-emergency medical transportation covers
Non-emergency medical transportation, usually shortened to NEMT, is scheduled transport to and from medical care for passengers who are not in an emergency but cannot easily get there on their own. It is not an ambulance and it does not carry clinical staff. It is a ride, arranged around a medical appointment.
The most common trips are dialysis, chemotherapy and infusion, physical and occupational therapy, dental and vision appointments, specialist consultations, and hospital discharges. Many of these repeat on a fixed schedule, which is where planned transport works better than requesting a ride each time.
Wheelchair access and door-to-door support
We operate wheelchair-accessible vehicles with ramps, booked through the same flow as any other ride. Passengers who use a wheelchair, a walker, or a cane are accommodated without needing to transfer to a standard seat.
Where it is needed, drivers provide door-to-door assistance rather than curb-to-curb, meaning help from the door of the building to the vehicle and again at the destination. Tell us at booking if a passenger needs that support, or is travelling with an aide or family member, so the right vehicle and time allowance are set.
Scheduling and what to have ready
NEMT trips are booked in advance against the appointment time, not requested on demand. We plan the pickup backwards from when the passenger needs to be there, with margin for traffic, so the arrival is not a coin toss.
When booking, have the appointment time and address, the passenger name, whether a wheelchair or other mobility aid is involved, and whether anyone is travelling with them. For recurring treatment we set the trips up as a standing schedule so the ride is already arranged each week rather than rebooked.
